Carry Cash - these guys are cash only and so is this guy. Too often I’m in line ready to buy some food or a book at a small mom-and-pop shop and I see the sign “cash only”. Not that difficult to always have $40 on me to avoid this.
Google Map It Up - use the My Maps feature on google maps more. This is great for remembering great finds and passing on recommendations to friends. Apart of this, try out places on friends’ maps.
Make Bed Daily - I stole this from little did i know. It’s simple and easy but how much better does it feel after a long, tiring day, to come home to a fresh bed instead of a crumpled one?
Make Recommendations, Pass on Ideas and ENCOURAGE - This is a New Year’s resolution left over from last year that I let fade at the end of the year. Basically when I see a story, link, picture, quote, event, movie etc… that I think someone would I enjoy I send an email and pass it along to them. “BUT YOU HAVE A TUMBLR!” you say. First of all, stop yelling. Second, tumblr is too impersonal. Plus, some stuff I pass on is stuff I don’t like so why would I post it on here?
Another part of this is passing on ideas. If an idea pops in my head that I can’t execute, pass it on to a friend and see if they can make it happen. Or if someone has told me some of their passions and goals and I stumble upon an opportunity they may not be aware of, pass it on.
Lastly, when people tell me their goals and passions I want to encourage the hell out of them. Let them know how impressed I am that they’re trying for big things. Send random emails saying I was thinking about what they’re trying to do and ask for updates. Encouraging someone will hopefully help get them through bumps in the road AND will help remind them what they’re trying to accomplish.
Get Your Adult Wardrobe Started - the day is coming, and it’s coming soon, where you won’t be able to wear t-shirts and hoodies every day so when you shop for clothes stop buying them. Look for options you could see your 30 year old self wearing.
Sugar Free Diet - the most difficult resolution. This resolution came from reading this article by one of the greatest Canadians of all days. After reading it I noted I’d never be to do it. Well, I’m going to try. I’ve come to the conclusion there are too many foods with added sugar to take out everything, however, I can take out major points of added sugar. That means no chocolate bars or pop (uuuuugh!), no sugar in coffee and other such obvious sugary items. Replace them with fruit/vegetable snacks. Otherwise known as; be zero fun.
Also, try and not lose any weight doing this. Seriously. Eat like 10 meals a day if you have to.
Read While Waiting - I realized the other day that when I’m waiting for people to hang out or get ready or whatever I just sit there. Punch out a couple pages of the book you’re reading during this time.
There we go, that’s it for this year. Wish me luck!
These are great resolutions. I especially love the two about sharing and encouraging, and reading while waiting. And I agree on making the bed daily - it just feels so good to lay on made sheets at the end of a long day. Good luck!
So Mark Hoppus + Travis Barker - Tom DeLonge = +44, circa 2005. This was their project after blink 182 announced their hiatus, and I was into them alot more than I was into Angels and Airwaves. Anyways, this brings back some memories of high school :)
I roared with a belly laugh when I read this headline in bed earlier today. Could Capitol Records truly be this misguided? Do they not realize that if you were to sort Internet brands by those most emblematic of creativity — not piracy — that Vimeo would line up at the top? Lip-dubbing is harmless and perfectly fun, and ultimately will define the aesthetic of an Internet generation. Other than for some petty legal jockeying towards a greater strategy can I imagine why this record company would try to sink such a potentially valuable lifeline — Lip-Dubbing and Vimeo create tremendous relevance and usefulness for their catalog!
If anything better underlines my point it’s an email I received from Sean Nelson, the frontman of the band Harvey Danger, whose song Flagpole Sitta we’ve now infamously lip-dubbed:
That Flagpole Sitta video made me incredibly happy, just when I thought there was NOTHING that could make me listen to that song again. A thousand thank you’s.
Capitol, you’re a bunch of goof-balls. This lawsuit is the tactical equivalent to pooping on someone’s birthday cake.
I, for one, am willing to boycott Capitol artists unless they reconsider, and I implore other labels to pivot and spur conversations with Vimeo in order to determine a simple process to give people access to copyrighted music for personal video that is satisfactory for all. Preemptive strikes simply won’t do anymore!
“I am not a smoker. I only smoke in certain situations: post-coital, when I’m with Germans, sometimes those two overlaps, coital, birthdays, to annoy my mom, pre-coital, on a sailboat, the day The Mets are mathematically eliminated every year, and, of course, wait for it, cause lord knows I have, pregnancy scares.”— Barney Stinson, How I Met Your Mother 5.11 Last Cigarette Ever
I just finished organizing my iTunes. Been working at it since 6, no big.
While importing all these (unlabeled!) CDs from a few years ago, I re-discovered some songs and bands that I had completely put off from my listening rounds: Camera Obscura, Jack’s Mannequin, Imogen Heap, +44, Nada Surf, Shout Out Louds…
And I also took the liberty of adding Eagles of Death Metal’s Peace. Love. Death Metal. and Death By Sexy, Lady GaGa’s The Fame Monster, Hot Chip’s Coming on Strong, Brand New’s Daisy, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s It’s Blitz, and Tegan and Sara’s Sainthood to my iTunes.
I’m looking forward to alot of (re)listening over Xmas break :)
